Years of experience

From Her Hear, Through My Hands

Most people knew my mother as Miss Dawta. As her “wash-belly daughter, I stayed by her side the longest. I learned that care isn’t just about medicine – it’s about the way porridge is mixed, the way a person is spoken to, and the way their dignity is preserved. I started this service to bring Mama’s “Gold Standard” to families who need a trusted hand.

Stories of Care & Trust

How Our Placement Service Works

The "Cup of Tea" Assessment (Discovery)

We start with a deep, honest conversation—whether in person or over a video call if you are overseas. We talk about loved ones' medical needs, their mobility, their budget, and just as importantly, their personality. Do they love to be in the country where it's quiet, or do they prefer the hustle and bustle of town?

1

Vetting & The Shortlist

I don’t just read brochures; I know these facilities. I take your family's specific needs and create a shortlist of 2 to 4 fully vetted, reputable nursing homes or assisted living facilities in Jamaica that match your exact criteria. "I don't recommend a home to your family unless it's a place I would proudly lay my own head."

2

Guided Facility Tours

You never have to walk into a facility blind. I will schedule the tours and accompany you. If you are living abroad, I will be your boots on the ground. I will go on your behalf, ask the tough clinical questions, check the cleanliness, and video call you from the property so you can see it with your own eyes.

3

Transition & Paperwork Support

Moving is stressful enough without the red tape. I help families navigate the admissions paperwork, medical evaluations, and coordinate the actual move-in day to ensure the transition is smooth, dignified, and filled with warmth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mis Dawta last Daughter Answers Your Worries

My dear, I work exclusively for you and your family, not the nursing homes. I do not take hidden commissions from facilities, which means I might just recommend the place that pays them the most. I don't operate like that. You pay my consultation or package fee directly, which allows me to remain 100% objective and only recommend the home that is truly best for Mama, Papa or love ones.

Absolutely. In fact, helping the Diaspora is my specialty. We will communicate via WhatsApp video calls and emails. I will tour the facilities for you, show you the rooms live on video, and ask all the tough medical questions on your behalf. You can focus on booking your ticket to visit them once they are safely settled, rather than using your vacation days to stress over finding a place.

It depends on your situation. If it is an emergency—for example, Papa is being discharged from the hospital this week and cannot go back to his empty house—we can find an emergency placement within 48 to 72 hours. If we are just planning ahead, we usually take 2 to 3 weeks to carefully tour, compare, and get all the medical paperwork in order so the transition is perfectly smooth.

After 20 years in the Jamaican and USA healthcare , I have a very sharp eye! I don't just look at their glossy brochures. I visit the homes to check if they meet the Ministry of Health & Wellness standards. I check the staff-to-patient ratios, I look at the cleanliness of the bathrooms, I ask about doctor-on-call availability, and I even check what they are serving for lunch. If it doesn't pass the 'Miss Dawta Gold Standard,' I won't recommend it to your family

Yes, we can. This is exactly why you need a placement guide. Not every nursing home in Jamaica is equipped or licensed to handle high-level clinical needs or memory care. If you just guess from a Google search, you might end up at a facility that cannot properly care for them. I will only shortlist homes that have trained psychiatric nurses or the specific medical equipment your Elder needs.

This is very common in our culture; our elders are proud and love their independence! I can help you have that gentle but honest conversation with them. Sometimes, hearing from a fellow senior and a retired nurse—someone they view as a peer rather than their 'child' telling them what to do—makes all the difference. We focus on the positives: community, safety, and no more worrying about cooking and
cleaning.

Let’s Find the Right Care, Together

From the first conversation to the final decision, we’re here to support you and your loved one every step of the way.
